Eye Glasses
The Gridley Lions Club participates in the Lions "Sight
First" program with a number of programs to conquer blindness. We have
taken on the challenge to prevent blindness in our own community by assuring
that everyone who needs glasses, has access to them. Where people fall through
the cracks because they are unable to afford glasses, and where insurance and
government programs do not cover them, we will buy them. Every year we provide
an average of 6 pairs of glasses to youth in the Gridley Schools.
For more information about this program you may contact the
chairman Pedro Mota at (530) 846-6311.
In addition we assist those who need further care by
referring to Lions Eye Foundation & Eye Hospital in Oakland, CA. This
Lions Eye Hospital is sponsored by the Lions Clubs of Northern California.
Where needed we can also assist with transportation to/ from appointments at
the eye Hospital.
Glasses Recycling
In addition to the programs above, we assist Lions Clubs in
other countries (i.e. Mexico) with recycled glasses. We collect glasses which
are no longer used in our community and send them to our sister clubs. There
they sort them, change prescriptions where necessary, and help people in their
communities to see again. You can donate your old glasses by bringing them to
one of our recycling centers, or by giving them to any member of the Gridley
Lions Club.
